What if you could go from “I need leads” to “I have a list with contact information” in five minutes? With technology-based prospecting, you can.

This quick-start guide walks you through building a targeted lead list based on technology stack—no manual research, no hours of scraping. Just search, filter, and export.

What You’ll Need

  • A technology database with search and export capabilities (I’ll use TechLeads.fyi for this tutorial)
  • An idea of what technology your ideal customers use
  • 5 minutes

That’s it. Let’s build a list.

Step 1: Define Your Target Technology (30 seconds)

Before you search, decide what technology to target. Ask yourself:

  • What do your best customers use? Look at your current customer base. What CRM, e-commerce platform, or tools do they typically have?
  • What indicates fit for your product? If you integrate with Shopify, search for Shopify. If you help HubSpot users, search for HubSpot.
  • What’s the competitor play? Want to find companies using a competitor? Search for that technology.

For this example, let’s say you sell a tool for e-commerce brands. Your target: Shopify stores in the United States.

Step 2: Run Your Search (30 seconds)

  1. Go to TechLeads.fyi
  2. In the technology search, type “Shopify”
  3. Press enter or click search

You’ll immediately see millions of results—every Shopify store in the database. That’s too many to work with, so we’ll narrow it down.

Step 3: Apply Filters (1 minute)

This is where you turn a massive dataset into a targeted list. Apply filters progressively:

Geography Filter

Click on the geography filter and select “United States” (or your target market). This eliminates companies outside your territory.

Traffic Filter

Set a minimum traffic threshold. This ensures you’re targeting real businesses, not abandoned stores:

  • 1,000+ monthly visitors: Active but smaller stores
  • 10,000+ monthly visitors: Established businesses (recommended starting point)
  • 100,000+ monthly visitors: Major players, enterprise conversations

Optional: Additional Technologies

Want to get more specific? Add technology combinations:

  • Shopify + Klaviyo = Stores investing in email marketing
  • Shopify + Google Ads = Stores running paid acquisition
  • Shopify + ReCharge = Subscription-based e-commerce

Each filter reduces quantity but increases quality.

Step 4: Review Your List (1 minute)

Before exporting, scan through the results:

  • Do these look like companies you’d want to sell to?
  • Are the company sizes roughly right?
  • Any obvious mismatches to filter out?

If something looks off, adjust your filters. Maybe increase the traffic threshold, or add/remove technology combinations.

A list of 500 highly qualified prospects beats 50,000 random ones.

Step 5: Export with Contact Enrichment (2 minutes)

Now for the magic: getting actual contact data.

  1. Click the export button
  2. Select your export format (CSV is most flexible)
  3. Enable contact enrichment
  4. Choose how many leads you want
  5. Start export

With enrichment enabled, your export includes:

  • Company name and website
  • Technology detection details
  • Decision-maker names and titles
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers (where available)
  • LinkedIn profiles

No separate research step needed.

What You’ve Built in 5 Minutes

You now have:

  1. A list of companies using your target technology
  2. Filtered to your ideal geography and company size
  3. With decision-maker contact information included
  4. Ready for outreach

Try doing that manually. It would take days, not minutes.

What Comes Next

Segment Your List

If you pulled multiple technology combinations, segment them for different outreach messaging. “You’re using Shopify + Klaviyo” hits different than “You’re using Shopify + Mailchimp.”

Personalize Your Outreach

You have technology data—use it. Reference their specific stack in your emails:

“I noticed you’re running your store on Shopify—we’ve helped similar stores increase conversion by X% with…”

Load into Your Sales Tools

Import the CSV into your CRM, sales engagement platform, or email tool. The leads are ready for whatever workflow you use.

Track and Iterate

Note which technology criteria produce the best responses and highest-quality conversations. Refine your filters over time based on results.

Pro Tips for Better Lists

Start Narrow, Expand Later

Better to start with strict filters and high-quality leads than a huge list of questionable fits. You can always loosen filters and pull more.

Use Technology Combinations

Single-technology lists are good. Multi-technology lists are better. A company using Shopify + Klaviyo + Stripe has a more predictable profile than just “uses Shopify.”

Refresh Regularly

New companies adopt your target technologies daily. Run fresh searches monthly to catch new prospects.

Save Your Searches

If a particular filter combination works well, save it. Makes repeat list-building even faster.

Your Turn

That’s the five-minute framework:

  1. Define your target technology
  2. Run the search
  3. Apply filters (geography, traffic, additional tech)
  4. Review the results
  5. Export with contact enrichment

Technology-based prospecting removes the hours of manual research that used to slow down sales teams. The data exists—you just need to search it.
